Why does nobody talk about the pressure to push retail after a facial?

I realized I was stressing clients out by always ending with a product pitch after a $150 service, because a regular in Seattle finally said 'I just want to relax, not shop'. Do you ever skip the sales talk?

Isn't that the worst? I felt the same pressure at my old salon, and it just made the whole vibe feel cheap. Now I only mention products if a client asks, and they seem way happier.

How can bosses not see that pushing sales just wrecks the trust? It turns a chill service into a bad infomercial. Clients come to relax, not to get pitched the whole time. The whole point is making them feel good, not making them feel sold.

Honestly my friend quit her spa job over that exact pressure. She said it ruined the good vibe she worked so hard to create, just like @kim_smith82 said. Tbh clients can tell when you're being pushed to sell.
