Question about handling a client's sudden skin flare-up during a facial

Last Thursday, I had a regular client come in for her monthly hydrating facial. About 15 minutes into the steam, her cheeks went from a little pink to bright red and she said, "It feels really hot and tight all of a sudden." I stopped everything, used a cool compress, and switched to a super simple calming serum I keep on hand for reactions. She calmed down, but it was scary. She hadn't changed any products or meds. I'm thinking maybe it was stress or something she ate, but I've never seen her skin react like that mid-service. Has anyone else had a client have a sudden flare-up out of the blue? What's your full step-by-step for when that happens?

Did you check if she might have started using any new laundry detergent or fabric softener? Sometimes the fragrance from a client's shirt collar or pillowcase can transfer to their skin and react with the steam.

My friend Sarah had a client break out in hives last year. It turned out to be the new lavender dryer sheets the client's husband bought. They traced it back after checking everything in her skincare routine. The fragrance just did not agree with the steam from the facial.
