I finally understood why my extractions were causing redness after a workshop in Seattle.
The instructor watched me work on a model and said 'you're pushing down, not lifting up'... now I use a different angle and my clients don't look so irritated. Anyone else have a simple trick that fixed a basic technique?

Disagree completely. Pushing down works fine if you know what you're doing. I've been an esthetician for twelve years and my method gets everything out in one pass. The whole lifting thing just takes longer and leaves stuff behind. Redness happens because people are too rough or use bad tools, not because of the angle. My clients never have issues because I control the pressure.

My friend's skin got torn up by a pro using that method, @lisa_hill23. Lifting at an angle just feels way safer for me.

Hang on, could it be the tool material that's the real factor here? I've seen cheap metal spatulas with rough edges tear skin no matter what angle you use. Maybe your friend's pro was using something that wasn't properly finished or had a burr on it. Does anyone check their tools under a bright light before starting?
