Appreciation post: I was steaming faces way too close for like a year

So I was doing a facial on a regular last week, and I had my little steamer going like always... about six inches from her skin. She made a comment, just kind of offhand, like 'wow, that feels really intense on my cheeks.' I laughed it off but it stuck with me. Later, I was watching a video from that big skincare conference in Orlando, and the instructor specifically said to keep the nozzle at least twelve inches away. I felt my stomach drop. I'd been basically cooking people's faces because I thought closer meant more effective. No wonder some clients would get a bit red after. I'm honestly embarrassed it took me this long to figure out. Has anyone else had a basic tool technique they were totally wrong about for way too long?

Twelve inches seems like overkill though.

My buddy built a 6x6 deck with 12 inch spacing and it still bounced like a trampoline when we had 15 people on it. Honestly if you're using standard lumber and want it to last more than a couple years, going bigger or closer together saves you from rebuilding the whole thing later.
