That $50 door interlock kit I almost wrote off saved me a whole Saturday
I had a 1992 Otis in a building downtown that kept faulting on door lock continuity. The customer wanted to replace the entire hoistway, but that was a $4k quote they didn't approve. I grabbed a cheap interlock rebuild kit from the supply house just to try it - figured I'd waste an hour. Turns out the old plunger spring was worn down by like 3mm, and swapping just that part fixed the dropouts completely. Now I keep three of those kits in my truck at all times. Has anyone else found a cheap fix that actually outlasted the original part?

You ever had a buddy pull off something like that? My friend Dave fixed his grandma's old elevator with a zip tie and a penny once. The door lock sensor was out of alignment, and he just wedged the penny in there to hold it level. Thing's been running fine for two years now, no joke.

My buddy Mark once got a washing machine running again by fixing the timer knob with a paperclip.
