Had a governor rope slip on a 90s Otis in a downtown office building yesterday.

The car oversped by about 15% before the safeties finally grabbed, which was a new one for me. Anyone dealt with a worn sheave groove causing that before?

Yikes, that's a scary one. We had a similar issue where the rope was just glazing in the groove. Re-grooving the sheave fixed it for us.

Honestly, the phrase "rope was just glazing in the groove" gave me flashbacks. Tbh I once spent a whole afternoon convinced we had a major governor issue, turned out the sheave was just polished smoother than a used car salesman. Felt like a real genius that day. A worn groove can absolutely let it run like that before the safeties catch, scary stuff.
