Guy yelled at me for using the wrong oil on a rail guide
Some old timer saw me wiping down a guide rail with 3-in-1 oil and said I was 'greasing a steak instead of seasoning a pan' or something. Ended up switching to a specific lithium grease he recommended and now my cars aren't jerking as much after 6 months. Has anyone else had a random stranger correct their lubrication habits?

My dad once tried to season his cast iron skillet with WD-40 because the label said it worked on metal. Took him three scrubs and a lot of swearing to fix that.

That WD-40 on cast iron story hurts my soul but honestly the rail guide thing makes me wonder how many machines out there are running on the wrong grease just cause nobody ever told anyone. Its like a secret handshake or something with those old guys they just know by feel what works.
