Watching a guy in a Dallas repair shop fix a board with just a hot air station and a prayer made me ditch my full reflow oven setup.

I saw him bring back a water-damaged MacBook logic board in under 20 minutes using only a Quick 861DW and some flux, which convinced me that simpler, more focused tools often beat the big expensive machines for most daily jobs, so what's the most impressive repair you've seen done with minimal gear?

Ever notice how this happens everywhere now? Watched a neighbor fix his kid's fancy RC car with just a hair dryer and a tiny screwdriver. Makes you wonder if we overcomplicate things chasing the perfect tool. Sometimes the skill in your hands matters way more than the gear on your bench.

Wait, he fixed it with a hair dryer? That's the part that gets me. I'd be worried about melting the plastic into a weird blob. Your neighbor must have had the heat setting just right and a real steady hand. Makes the point even better though, I guess. It's not even about having the right tool, it's about knowing how to use the wrong one.

Honestly, that part really clicked for me too. It shows how knowing the limits of your materials is just as important as knowing your tools. A hair dryer can be a heat gun if you know how plastic actually behaves under heat.
