Overheard a customer say their phone only died after a cheap screen swap

They mentioned the new screen got super hot before the phone shut off for good. Made me check the power draw specs on a replacement part I was about to install. How often do you guys verify component ratings beyond just physical fit?

Yeah that part about "check power ratings on any part that carries a current" is spot on... I've toasted a board myself from trusting a knockoff battery that looked identical. @paulk42, this is exactly why I always grab the multimeter before installing anything with wires now.

Totally get that, had a cheap battery fry a board once because its voltage was all wrong. I check power ratings on any part that carries a current now, learned my lesson the hard way. It's crazy how many knockoff parts look perfect but have totally wrong specs inside. That extra minute with a multimeter saves so many headaches later.

Wait, @thea143, it fried the board? That's brutal... I'd be so mad if a battery did that.
