Had a laptop board in yesterday that kept shorting after a liquid spill clean, turned out the guy before me left a tiny piece of conductive foam under a chip.

Honestly though, is a tiny bit of foam really enough to cause a full short? Seems like it would have to be in a very specific spot to bridge something important. Tbh I've seen boards run with way worse leftover junk after a clean. Maybe the short was from something else and the foam was just sitting there.

Watch where that foam lands though, it could totally sit right across two tiny pins on something like an SD card reader and kill the whole thing.
