Appreciation post: I finally got a proper hot air station after using a cheap heat gun for a decade, and the difference in my microsoldering success rate went from maybe 50% to like 95% overnight.

I mean, I was blowing components off the board half the time with that old gun, but the new JBC station with the tiny nozzles and digital temp control let me replace a BGA chip on an iPhone 12 logic board on my first try last week.

Come on, that's just gear snobbery. I've seen people do amazing work with those cheap heat guns if you actually learn to use them right. Maybe @jakegarcia just needed more practice, not a new toy.

Laughing at the popcorn capacitors comment because I've been there. That first upgrade is like finally getting glasses after years of squinting. Bet you don't miss those heat gun roulette sessions either.

My first hot air station was a $40 no-name unit from a flea market, and I swear the temperature dial was just for show. I once tried to reflow a simple USB port and sent five nearby capacitors flying like popcorn. Upgrading to a real station felt like going from a sledgehammer to a scalpel.
