I finally realized I was stripping wire insulation wrong for years. A guy on a job in Phoenix saw me and just said 'you're gonna nick the copper doing it like that'.

Reminds me of the time I was crimping terminals and had the die in backwards for a whole week. My foreman just shook his head and flipped it around without a word. Felt like a total rookie move that everyone but me knew. Sometimes you just get stuck in your own way of doing things until someone points it out.

My first week as an apprentice, I put the entire hydraulic hose assembly together backwards. The lead tech just stared at it for a solid minute before he laughed.

Have you tried using a good pair of automatic wire strippers? They're not perfect for every gauge, but for most common stuff they take the guesswork out and you won't gouge the copper at all. Made my life way easier once I switched.
