Vent: My neighbor told me my garden was 'just luck' after I spent 2 years on it
She said it right after I showed her my first batch of heirloom tomatoes, pointing out that I 'just got good rain this year.' I had hauled 40 bags of compost from the hardware store over 8 weekends to fix that clay soil. Has anyone else had someone dismiss work they put in like it didn't count?

Holy crap, FORTY bags of compost? Over eight weekends? That's insane dedication, I can't believe she just shrugged that off like nothing. That clay soil fight is REAL too, I spent a whole summer breaking up the rock-hard dirt in my backyard and my neighbors just said I "had a green thumb" like it was magic. It's infuriating when people ignore the literal blood, sweat, and sore back you put into something.

Have you ever thought that maybe the "shrugging it off" is actually her way of processing the sheer scale of what she did? Like, if someone really sat down and calculated the cubic feet of compost moved or the number of wheelbarrow trips, they'd have to admit it was an absurd amount of labor. Maybe she's not pretending it was easy, she's just refusing to let the backyard win by giving it that dramatic weight. I've done stuff like that where if I actually explained how many hours it took, I'd probably cry, so I just go with "oh yeah, it was fine.
