Overheard a guy at the nursery say to water plants at NIGHT not morning, thought he was nuts

I always heard morning was the ONLY time to water so the leaves dry out and you dont get fungus. But this old timer at Armstrong Garden Center was telling some newbie that in SoCal summers the water just evaporates by 10am if you water in the morning. Said he waters his veggie beds at 9pm and they actually soak in deep. I tried it for two weeks on my tomato patch and the difference is wild. Plants look way perkier and I'm using half the water. Anyone else water after dark and not get mold issues?

Oh man, I actually read an article about this last week that said the whole warning might be overblown for some people. It talked about how most of those food safety warnings are for healthy adults and not everyone reacts the same way. I mean, I still wouldn't personally risk it after seeing what happens to people who get sick from it, but I guess I can see why someone might try it if they're really careful. Idk, maybe it's just me but I feel like the color and smell are usually pretty good indicators of when something is actually dangerous versus just kind of old. Honestly though, I'm still on your side with this one, I'd rather be safe than sorry.
