My uncle said to never use a 6 inch knife on a 12 foot ceiling, but I did it for years.
He told me that back in 2010, saying a 12 inch knife is the only way to get a flat finish on a big ceiling. I kept using my old 6 inch tool because it felt faster. Last month in a Denver condo, the homeowner pointed out a bunch of ridges under the can lights that I just could not fix. My uncle was right the whole time. What's the biggest knife you guys use for overhead work?

Oh man, I had the exact same wake-up call switching from a 6 to a 12 inch knife on big ceilings - totally different ballgame when you hit those can lights. @rosel83 is spot on about going bigger, I switched to a 14 inch for cathedral ceilings after a job in Tucson and never looked back.
