Modern drywall feels like cardboard next to the old stuff.
A slight bump leaves a mark. I miss when you had to put some muscle into hanging a sheet.

Wait, is it REALLY that much worse? Feels like most people would never even notice the difference.

You'd notice the difference, ivanm25, if you ever had to carry the old stuff up a flight of stairs.

Actually, the new drywall is a HUGE improvement for installation. It's way lighter, so you don't kill your back hauling it up a ladder. The consistency is better too, no more warped sheets that won't line up. Sure, it dings easier, but that's what spackle is FOR, and it's still plenty strong once it's on the wall. Most folks are just hanging pictures, not trying to stop a truck, so it's more than adequate.
