Saw a weird sediment buildup pattern on the Ohio River last month
It was near the Cincinnati bend, and the riverbed had these deep, narrow channels right next to totally flat silt plains. Made me think our cutter head speed was way off for that kind of mix. Anyone run into something like that and have a pump speed fix?

Gray_wood is right on the money. That's old dredge work, not a fresh cut. Those sharp trenches are from the ladder or cutter suction lines, and the flats are the settled overflow. Trying to fix pump speed now is like tuning your car for a pothole someone else drove through. You're reading a history book, not making a new cut.

That's not sediment, that's dredge spoil. You're looking at the old trench lines from when they last cleared the channel. The flat parts are where the silt settled out after they pumped it. Your cutter head speed wouldn't change that pattern, it's already done.
