PSA: Overheard a guy at the marina in Galveston say he never checks his cutter head teeth before a job.
He said he just 'lets the machine tell him' when they're worn, which seems like a good way to find out halfway through a channel cut.

My uncle's dredge in Mobile Bay seized up from that exact habit. I mean, that's a really expensive way to get the memo.

Hate when people learn lessons the hard way. Bet he won't skip maintenance again after that bill.

Nina said it right about learning lessons the hard way. I had a buddy with a dredge in Louisiana who was the same way about cutter head teeth, and his machine ended up chewing through so much sand it warped the whole drum. That repair bill was more than a new set of teeth every month for three years. I guess I'm the cheap guy who learns the easy way.
