Garage shelf collapse after I ignored the weight limit

Honestly I thought I could push it with some extra storage bins stacked on my plywood shelf. The whole thing came down at 3 AM in my garage near Portland and smashed a lantern I had stored underneath. Has anyone else had a shelf fail on them like this?

Is it just me or does this feel like a pattern with everyday stuff? You think you can push it a little and then bam, total failure.

Yeah but @brianm27 I think you're kinda missing the part where it's not really about pushing things too far, it's more like we just don't pay attention to the little warning signs. Like with my old laptop, I knew it was running slow but I kept adding more tabs instead of closing them, then one day it just froze up and I lost all my work. Same with my phone battery, I'd let it drain to 5% every single day and was shocked when it finally died on me. It's not the thing breaking that's the pattern, it's us ignoring all the little hints until it's too late.
