Just realized Lowe's swapped out their lumber grading last month

I was at the store on Wednesday picking up 2x4s for a shed frame and noticed the wood looked rougher than usual. Checked the stamp and it was #2 grade but felt more like utility grade to me. I went through three whole stacks before I found eight straight boards without massive knots. Has anyone else noticed the quality drop at the bigger stores lately?

In my experience the #2 grade at our local yard has been pretty consistent for years now.

My local yard has been the same way with #2 for a while now. Just double check the moisture content if you're buying a big load, that's where I've gotten tripped up before.

Yeah I hear you on that! I've been buying #2 from my yard for about five years now and it's been solid through good weather and bad. A few weeks ago I grabbed a load that was a little on the wet side but nothing crazy, still burned fine. It's nice when you find a supplier you can count on without having to second-guess every time.
