Can we talk about the giant light switch panel at my local hardware store?
I was at Ace Hardware on 5th street last Saturday and their floor model had a 12-gang switch plate mounted on a demo board, like who actually needs that many switches in one spot? Has anyone here ever installed something that ridiculous or is this just for show?

That giant switch panel is just the hardware store version of those industrial looking light switches that are trendy in new build houses. Walk through any home show and you'll see people paying extra for something that looks like it belongs in a factory. It's all about creating a sense of utility and control that you don't actually need. Have you noticed how many products are just designed to make us feel more in charge of our own homes?

My brother in law actually put a 10 gang in his workshop because he wanted separate switches for every single light and tool station. It worked great for him because he could kill power to just the drill press without walking across the room, but he spent a whole weekend labeling everything. For most people though, a 12 gang is just asking for confusion when you forget which switch does what.
