My view on garage insulation shifted after a close call

I used to think insulating my garage was unnecessary for my mild area. A cold snap last year showed me how wrong I was when my tools started to rust. What are your go-to methods for keeping moisture and cold out?

Regular charcoal doesn't absorb much, needs activation.

Try hiding a few cheap clay pots filled with charcoal in corners, it soaks up dampness like a sponge. I read about it in an old woodworking forum, and it saved my plane irons from pitting. Just make sure to refresh the charcoal every few months, it's way less hassle than a dehumidifier. Plus, it doesn't add to your electric bill at all.

How much charcoal do you actually put in each clay pot?
