My neighbor in Charlotte said I was crazy to use a 4-inch concrete slab for a patio, but the contractor wanted 6 inches.
Last week I started digging for a 12x14 patio and got two different opinions on the slab thickness. I went with the 4-inch pour after checking the soil, but now I'm second-guessing the choice for furniture weight. What's the right call for a basic patio with a grill and table?

My uncle's patio in Raleigh has a 4-inch slab and it's held his heavy fire pit table for years. The soil prep and base gravel are honestly more important for preventing cracks.

Totally agree, the base is what makes or breaks it.

Base gravel is key" - my buddy dug a spa pit wrong and it cracked in one winter.
