My $12 dishwasher filter brush actually works better than the expensive one

Bought a 3-pack of those little nylon bristle brushes from Harbor Freight for $12. Been using them to scrape gunk off the bottom filter and around the spray arm holes. The $40 "official" brush I got from the appliance parts store was way too stiff and scratched the plastic. Has anyone else found a cheap tool that does a better job than the name brand stuff?

The Harbor Freight ones are LEGIT. I grabbed a pack of those little detail brushes from the automotive section for like $8 and they clean my coffee maker basket and Keurig needle way better than the stupid "cleaning kit" I wasted money on. Sometimes the cheap stuff just WORKS.

Can you really trust a $12 brush from Harbor Freight to clean something as important as your dishwasher filter? I mean, the expensive brush from the appliance store is probably made with better materials and tested to not scratch sensitive plastic parts. There is a reason name brand tools cost more, they usually have higher quality control and actual engineering behind them. Sure, the cheap brush might not scratch right away, but over time those stiff nylon bristles can wear down and leave micro-scratches that trap even more gunk. I would rather spend the $40 once and know I'm not risking damaging a $500 appliance to save a few bucks. You get what you pay for most of the time, and a dishwasher filter is not something I would gamble on.
