Took me 4 years to get a simple ramp permit approved

Back in 2020 I needed a wheelchair ramp off my back porch. Simple thing, just 8 feet long. The city kept losing my paperwork and asking for new drawings every 3 months. I finally got it approved last week, 4 years later. Has anyone else dealt with a permit office that just keeps kicking stuff down the road?

Wow, four years for an 8 foot ramp. Did you ever figure out if it was one specific person dropping the ball or the whole office just passing it around? I had a similar thing with a fence permit once and it turned out one clerk was literally throwing my paperwork in a drawer every time it came across her desk.

Just a guess, but was the ramp for an HOA or a city permit? In my experience with property permits, it's usually a mix of one person stalling and the rest of the office using that as an excuse to kick the can. What finally got mine moving was stopping by in person every week and asking for a specific update, which made it harder for them to just dump it in a drawer.
