PSA: I just spent two weeks in Lisbon with a regular backpack and a proper travel pack. The difference is real.

I always used a normal 25L daypack for my gear, thinking it was fine. For this trip, I borrowed a friend's 35L travel-specific pack with a laptop sleeve that opens flat like a suitcase. The first big win was at airport security. I could open the whole main part in one go without pulling everything out, which saved me at least 10 minutes of frantic digging each time. The second was organization. Having a separate, padded slot for my work laptop meant I wasn't cramming it on top of my clothes and charger. After three days of moving between cafes, my back felt way better because the weight was spread out. The old pack just dumped everything in a heap. Has anyone else made a switch like this and found a specific feature that became a game changer?

My old Jansport got me through college and I swore by it for years. I finally bought a proper travel pack for a trip to Mexico City last fall and the hip belt alone changed everything. I was carrying a 15 pound camera kit and the weight went straight to my hips instead of my shoulders. I used to get a sore neck after a full day of walking and that just stopped. It made me realize I had been putting up with discomfort for no good reason.

My friend Sarah carried a 40-pound pack through Peru without a hip belt. She had the same shoulder pain you mentioned, grace_perry44, until she borrowed a proper hiking pack for her next trip. The difference in her comfort was honestly crazy.
