Pro tip: I finally understood my hotspot struggles after a cafe owner in Chiang Mai pointed at my laptop.
I'd been blaming spotty internet for a year, but he showed me my aluminum MacBook case was blocking half the signal, so now I always face the logo toward the router.

Honestly that makes so much sense. I had the same thing happen with my old phone in a metal case, the wifi would just die in my hand. Took me forever to figure out it was basically a tiny Faraday cage.

Actually a full Faraday cage needs a solid metal shell, but those metal cases can still block a lot of signal.
