My friend told me to always pack a local SIM card and I thought it was dumb until last month
He said 'trust me, you'll need it' before I left for Bali. I landed at 2 AM, my e-sim wouldn't activate, and I had no way to call a Grab. Ended up paying a taxi driver at the airport $40 for a 20-minute ride to my hostel. The next morning I got a Telkomsel SIM for like $8 and had data everywhere. I felt like an idiot for not listening sooner. What's one piece of gear or prep you thought was overkill but ended up saving you?
