That 'rare' coin I bought for $40 turned out to be a fake from AliExpress
I found a 1916-D Mercury dime at a flea market last month for $40 and thought I scored big. After posting it on a coin forum, a collector pointed out the mint mark looked wrong and it matched a known counterfeit batch from China. Has anyone else gotten burned on a deal that seemed too good to be true and what tipped you off?

You had that feeling in your gut it was too good to be true, right? What exactly made you pull the trigger on it despite that doubt - was it just the price or did the seller say something convincing? I'm curious if there was one small thing that almost tipped you off before you handed over the cash.

That "seemed too good to be true" part is always the red flag, isn't it? I got stung on a Morgan silver dollar that turned out to be a polished counterfeit from a guy on Facebook Marketplace.
