That 500 mile mark caught me off guard last weekend
I was riding my bike on Saturday and hit 500 miles total for the month. I wasn't even trying for it. I just looked down at my odometer after a long ride and there it was. Last year I barely did 100 miles in a month. I don't know if that number is even impressive to most people, but it surprised me how much it meant. Has anyone else had a random number or milestone pop up that made you stop and think?

Five hundred miles in a month is the point where biking stops being a casual hobby and turns into a real habit with staying power. What clicked for you that made you double your riding so fast?

I read this one article that said the real shift happens when you stop thinking of yourself as "someone who bikes" and start identifying as "a cyclist." For me it was when I started tracking my rides just to see the numbers. Not for any big goal, just curiosity. Then I noticed I was going from 10 miles to 15 to 20 without really planning it. That five hundred mile mark sneaks up on you. One month you're just trying to get fresh air, the next you're checking the forecast to plan your route around the rain.
