Spent $200 on a high-end air purifier and it barely did anything for my allergies

I bought one of those Dyson purifiers after seeing ads everywhere, thought it would finally stop my sneezing fits in my Brooklyn apartment. Two months in and my allergy symptoms were exactly the same, even with the filter running 24/7. My buddy swears by his $60 Honeywell model and says it changed his life, so now I'm wondering if the expensive tech is just a gimmick. Did I waste my cash or do these things actually work for some people but not others? Has anyone else had a similar experience with a pricey air purifier?

Hang on, have you checked the filter to see if it's actually pulling stuff out of the air? I had a similar blah experience with a pricey model until I wiped the pre-filter after a month and it was straight up black with gunk. The Dyson ones are really good at catching tiny particles, but if you have big stuff like dust or pollen floating around, it might need more than just the HEPA part or you gotta run it on a higher fan speed. Also, location matters - your Brooklyn place might just have a different mix of allergens that a cheaper unit with a stronger fan handles better, not necessarily that the expensive tech is a gimmick.

@mila_reed maybe you just need stronger allergy meds instead of blaming the air.
