Talked to my dad about his old mortgage rate and it hit different

He mentioned he locked in at 9.5% back in 1985 on a house in Cleveland. That made my current 6.8% feel like a steal even though I complain about it. We do not think about how much harder it was for people 30 years ago. Any of you ever compare rates with older family and realize you have it easier?

Man, that hits hard. My grandpa was in the same boat with his early 90s mortgage. It's wild how we all think we're getting screwed on rates but forget the double digit days. I've noticed this pattern everywhere. Not just money either. People my age complain about waiting 5 minutes for a coffee, but older folks remember when you had to drive across town and wait a whole week for a paycheck to clear. We just don't see how much easier a lot of stuff got.

@walker.robert hits the nail on the head - we forget how much slower life used to be.
