My $80 meal prep container set ended up costing me way more

I thought buying those fancy glass containers would save money on takeout, but I dropped one and it shattered, ruining a week's worth of chili. That was about $60 in food wasted between the ingredients and the container. Anyone else had storage solutions backfire on your budget?

My grandma had this rule about never buying the most expensive version of anything kitchen related, and I thought she was just being cheap. But ten years into adulting I realize she was right about a bigger pattern - the fancy stuff usually has some hidden flaw that makes it worse than the midrange option. Those expensive glass containers are heavy and slippery when wet, plus they don't stack well. It's like how expensive blenders sometimes have weird blade shapes that puree worse than a $40 Ninja.

My buddy spent like $200 on this ceramic knife set because some chef on YouTube swore by them. First time he tried to chop a sweet potato, one of the blades just snapped right at the handle. The expensive stuff is often too fragile for normal use. Meanwhile his old $30 stainless steel chef knife is still going strong after five years, just needs a quick sharpen now and then. Fancy kitchen gear is basically designed for people who take photos of their food but never actually cook messy meals.

Oh man I literally just watched a video where a restaurant supply guy said the exact same thing about ceramic knives. Apparently they're great for like 2 weeks until you look at them wrong and they chip.
