Picked a $15 an hour job over a $18 one and it actually worked out
Back in March I had two offers. One was a warehouse gig paying $18 an hour but it was 45 minutes away with no overtime. The other was a local hardware store for $15 an hour with a 10 minute drive. I went with the lower pay. Three months in the store gave me a raise to $16.50 and I get 35 hours a week. Plus I'm not burning $60 a week on gas anymore. Has anyone else taken a pay cut for a shorter commute and came out ahead?

Jumped on a similar choice a couple years back. Took a job at $14 an hour instead of $17 because the higher one was an hour each way in traffic. After gas and tolls I was basically losing $40 a week. The closer job let me sleep in an extra hour and I had time to meal prep (saved tons on eating out). Ended up getting promoted after a year and now I make more than that other job would have ever paid. Sometimes the numbers look better on paper but the real math is in your day to day happiness.
