I started using a free app called 'Focusmate' to trick myself into doing my boring data entry tasks. It's basically a video call with a stranger where you both work quietly for 50 minutes. My productivity shot up 80% last month.

That part about your productivity going up 80% is what gets me. I always thought those kinds of apps were a gimmick, just another thing to download and ignore. But seeing a number that big... it makes me reconsider. Maybe the simple act of having someone else there, even a stranger on a screen, creates a real sense of duty. You don't want to be the person slacking off while they're working. I might have to try this.

Yeah, that "sense of duty" thing is so real. I used to have a friend I'd meet at the library every Sunday just to pay bills and answer emails. Neither of us wanted to do it, but knowing she was there made me actually open the envelopes. We'd get a coffee after as a reward. It fell apart when she moved, and my paperwork piled up for months.

Oh man, the library coffee reward is genius. It's wild how the smallest ritual can trick your brain into doing the stuff you hate. I've been in that same boat where one person leaves and suddenly the whole system collapses. It makes you realize how much of our motivation is just social pressure dressed up as responsibility.
