I finally realized after 8 months that I was doing the cash drawer count completely backwards

We close at 10pm and I always just punched in whatever numbers came up on the screen. Felt like the system was doing the math for me. Then the district manager came by last Tuesday and watched me for like 5 minutes. She just goes 'you know you're supposed to start with the coins and work up, not the other way around right?' My totals were always off by like $2-$5 but I just blamed the register. Now I actually match down to the penny. Has anyone else found out they were doing some basic part of their job wrong for way too long?

Ha! I read somewhere that most people count cash wrong and it takes a manager to catch it.

Three months into my first restaurant job I realized I'd been peeling potatoes with the peeler going away from me instead of toward me. My manager just watched me struggle for weeks before he finally said something.
