Finally stopped checking my work email after 6 PM

For three years, I'd answer messages until midnight, thinking it made me look dedicated. Last Tuesday, I just turned off the notifications and went for a walk instead. Has anyone else managed to set a real boundary like that?

Wow, took you three years to figure out the off button? My boss tried to call me at 8 PM once and I just texted back "new phone, who dis." The look on his face the next day was totally worth it.

Remember my buddy who got a work call during his own wedding dinner. He just put the phone on the table, let it ring out, and sent a photo of the cake later. His boss finally got the hint that some hours are just not for work calls.

Question whether it's really that serious though. I mean yeah it's annoying but total ghost mode seems a bit dramatic. @christopher952's buddy at least had a cake photo to make the point. The "new phone" bit is funny but you probably could've just let it ring and saved yourself the weirdness the next morning. Honestly if a call comes in after hours you just don't pick up, it's not a crime.
