My $300 off-lease Dell from 2021 keeps up with my buddy's $1,200 new HP
I overheard a guy at the coffee shop last week bragging about his new laptop being way faster than older ones. But I bought a refurbished Dell Latitude off lease for $300 back in March and it boots up in under 30 seconds. My friend just dropped $1,200 on a brand new HP and his takes like 45 seconds to load Excel. Battery life on mine gives me about 6 hours, his gets maybe 4 before he's hunting for an outlet. Am I just lucky or are these off-lease business laptops actually the better deal for everyday stuff? Has anyone else had a similar experience buying used versus new?

My work laptop from 2020 is a Dell Latitude that the company was throwing out, so I snagged it for free. It boots up in like 20 seconds while my coworker's new $1,400 Lenovo takes a solid minute to even open Chrome. Business laptops are built tougher and with better parts, so they just don't get as bogged down with junk software right out of the box. Sounds like you lucked out and your friend got stuck paying a premium for a shiny sticker.

It's always funny how the "free" stuff ends up working better than the expensive stuff.
