Rant: My neighbor said to prune my maple in late fall, not early spring

Told me sap would run like crazy and kill the tree, but I did it in March anyway and now the whole thing is drooping after losing that much sap. Has anyone else had a tree get wrecked from ignoring seasonal pruning advice?

Grant said "it just drained all its energy straight onto the ground" and man, that's exactly what happened to my buddy's maple last year. I read somewhere that maples build up a ton of pressure in their sapwood over winter so cutting into them in early spring basically pops the seal. It's rough to watch a tree just drip itself into a sad droopy mess.

Told me sap would run like crazy" and honestly that's EXACTLY what happened. Maples bleed SO BAD in early spring it basically just drained all its energy straight onto the ground.
