My neighbor's pineapple on pizza debate got HEATED at the block party last Saturday
At the annual Oak Street block party last weekend, my neighbor Sarah swore pineapple on pizza is a crime against food, but Mike argued it's the perfect sweet and salty combo. About 15 of us got into it on the patio after someone ordered two large pizzas from Pizza Palace on 3rd Avenue. I'm on the fence after trying it, so which side are you on and why?

Nobody's talking about how the temperature changes the whole thing. A cold leftover pineapple chunk on pizza vs a hot fresh one out the oven are two different experiences. Hot pineapple gets that weird gooey texture that some people hate, but cold it firms back up and the sweetness is way more balanced. Sarah might have just gotten a bad lukewarm slice that ruined it for her.

Exactly 37 degrees is the danger zone for pineapple pizza. I had a slice at a party once that was sitting under a heat lamp for like an hour and it was basically a soggy mess of warm fruit and cheese. Cold leftover pineapple pizza from the fridge the next morning though? That's where it's at. The pineapple gets this nice little crunch back and the ham flavor soaks into everything better. Honestly I think the whole anti pineapple crowd just needs to try it from a fridge at 2am after a night out.
