Finally hit 1000 days on my Duolingo streak and honestly it's not that impressive
Everybody acts like grinding a language app for 1000 days straight is some huge achievement, but I think it just shows you have no life. I live in Austin and I've been doing 5 minutes of Spanish every night before bed, mostly just to keep the streak alive, not because I'm actually learning anything. The app pushed me through a whole "learn the history of the tortilla" module that had nothing to do with real conversation. Has anyone else felt like these apps just reward obsession more than actual skill building?

Started going hard on French for like three months straight and now I can order coffee and ask where the bathroom is but the app keeps trying to teach me about farm animals... my girlfriend actually speaks Spanish fluently and she just laughs when I try to use tortilla history in real life.

@dylan_rodriguez the farm animal thing KILLS me. I spent weeks learning the names of every barn animal in Spanish and then I went to a mercado and the old lady selling cheese asked me if I wanted milk from a cow or a goat and I blanked harder than a newborn. She just stared at me like I was insane while I stood there going vaca... cabra... cabrón? Real smooth moment on my part.
