Raincheck trick saved me $12 on a tool set I almost bought full price

I saw a 40% off sale on a socket set at Home Depot last week but they were out of stock so I grabbed a raincheck instead of walking away lol. Turns out the raincheck locks in the sale price for up to 90 days and they got more in yesterday so I picked it up for way less. Do you guys ever try rainchecks for clearance items or just wait for restocks?

Oh wow, I actually just heard about this exact thing last week from a guy at work. He said Home Depot rainchecks are kind of a hidden gem because you can also use them on clearance items that aren't being restocked, but you gotta ask the manager to do a special order. I've never tried it myself, but he claimed he got a $80 workbench for like $35 that way. Your mileage may vary though, I bet some stores are way more strict about it than others.

Yo wait @kelly.parker, did your coworker actually have to fight with the manager at all to get that special order approved? Cause I tried something similar at my local HD for a patio set that was on clearance and the guy just straight up said no, rainchecks don't work like that. Wondering if it depends on who you ask or if there's a specific way to bring it up that makes them more likely to say yes.
