PSA: A family account hack pushed me to fix my passwords

In my experience, weak passwords can cause real trouble. My cousin had her Instagram account taken over a while ago because she used something simple like her pet's name. The people who got in posted spam links and sent weird messages to everyone she knows. It took her days to get control back, and it was pretty stressful for her. That got me checking my own passwords, and I realized mine weren't much better. I started using a password manager to make and store longer, random passwords for each site. It felt confusing at first, but now I'm used to it and feel more secure. Your mileage may vary, but for me, it was a wake-up call. What tips do you have for keeping passwords safe without going crazy?

Ugh, tell me about it! I used my childhood street name for EVERYTHING for years, it was so bad. A friend had her email broken into and it was a total mess, and that was my wake-up call too. I finally got a password manager and it CHANGED the game, no more trying to remember fifty different codes. It feels so much better knowing each account has its own crazy strong password now.

@riley_park37 she said street name, not pet's name.

Seriously? Just her pet's name as a password?
