Eh, I doubt it was just the passwords. Most home setups have way bigger holes, like outdated router firmware.

Yeah, exactly. People worry about the flashy stuff like weak passwords or phishing, but half the time the real problem is just lazy maintenance. Routers especially - manufacturers stop patching them after a couple years and people just let them sit there broadcasting vulnerabilities. Most home networks are wide open through UPnP or default settings that come with the hardware. And don't even get me started on IoT devices. Smart plugs, cameras, thermostats - they're basically bricks with a built-in backdoor once the firmware goes stale. Fixing that stuff is way harder than making someone use a stronger password.
