My friend in Seattle still uses the same password for everything

We were at his place last week and he logged into his email right in front of me. I saw him type 'Seahawks2014' and asked if that was his only password. He said, 'Yeah, it's easy to remember.' I tried to explain how risky that is, but he just shrugged. How do you convince someone who doesn't think they're a target?

But how many people actually get hacked though.

Whoa wait, are you serious @troy_reed? It's not just some random fluke, there's literally a database of billions of stolen logins out there from sites like LinkedIn and MySpace. One of my old coworkers found his bank password in a dump from a gaming forum he used ten years ago. It's like leaving your house key under the mat and being surprised when someone tries it.

Tell him it's not about being a target, it's about being an easy target. If one site he used gets hacked, that password is now out there for anyone to try on his email and bank. It takes five minutes to set up a password manager that remembers everything for you.
