Coworker called me out for using the same password at work and home
Last month my IT guy pulled me aside after a security audit and said my work password was identical to my personal email password. He showed me a leaked database from a site I used 3 years ago and my password was right there in plain text. I changed my whole system that day - now I use a password manager and every account gets a unique 14-character mix. He said it only takes one breach to compromise everything and he was right. Has anyone else had a wakeup call like this from a coworker or audit?

Is it really that serious though? I mean yeah it's not ideal but people act like your whole life is over if someone gets into your email. I've been using the same basic password for like 10 years and nothing bad has happened. Most of those data breaches just get sold to spammers anyway, not some hacker who wants to ruin your day. Plus if you use two-factor authentication like you should, a leaked password is basically useless. I feel like IT people overhype this stuff to justify their jobs or sell you on their pet projects. As long as you don't reuse passwords for banking or anything with your money, the risk is pretty small.
