Watched my credit score jump 40 points in 3 months just from paying off one stupid collection

My buddy Dave had a $200 medical bill hit his credit report back in 2019, and it dropped him 60 points overnight. He paid it off and it took almost 5 months before his score even budged because the agency was slow updating. The whole system just feels random sometimes, like they make up the rules as they go.

Nah but the real kicker is that medical debt under $500 wasn't even supposed to be on credit reports after some new rules a couple years back. So Dave probably got screwed by a system that was already outdated when it hit him.
