Picked the secured card over the store card and it paid off

I was between opening a Kohl's card for the 35% off or going with a $200 secured Discover card last spring. I went with the Discover card because I knew I'd just binge shop at Kohl's and screw myself. My score went up 62 points in 7 months from that one card. Has anyone else had better luck with secured cards over store cards?
