Paid $120 for a credit repair service that did nothing a free letter dispute couldn't do
I signed up with a credit repair company for 3 months, lost $120 and all they did was send the same certified letters I could have mailed myself through the credit bureau websites for free, so has anyone else thrown money at these services and ended up with the same result?

The thing nobody mentions is that these companies actually rely on people being too scared or lazy to push back. They know the Fair Credit Reporting Act gives you the same rights without paying them, but they bank on customers thinking it's harder than it is. I watched a friend spend $300 on a similar service and all they did was dispute old addresses and open utility accounts, which you can clear up in a 10 minute phone call. The real scam is that they make you feel like you're getting expert help when the whole process is designed to be done by anyone who can read a letter and mail it.
