I was at the library in Springfield and saw a free seminar on reading your credit report.

The presenter pointed out that a lot of people miss the 'date opened' field for old accounts, which can really help your average account age if you keep them active.

Ugh, that's the worst, the whole "free pizza money" trap got me too. Totally feel your pain on that one, that's exactly why I still have my first store card from like a decade ago.

Oh the "date opened" field lol, my oldest account is from when I thought a credit card was just free pizza money. Keeping it open is my one smart move.

Hold up, I gotta push back on this. Keeping a card open just for age is a trap if it has a yearly fee you're paying for no reason. That pizza money card is costing you real money now, @christopher_kim. The credit score math is more about your total limit and on-time payments, not clinging to one old piece of plastic. Sometimes closing a useless account is the smarter move to stop the bleeding.
